What is SPIRAL Track®?

It will be discovered at Automotive Engineering Technology Exhibition in Yokohama on May/22-24 in this year.

SPIRAL Track is mechanical measuring instrument equipped less than 1% of nonlinearity accuracy with high performance of tracking ability due to backlash “zero” top design, consisting of 4 to 6 cylinders sleeve with spiral grooves.
All sleeves expand and contract measuring the displacement of thorax and abdomen of dummy by angle sensors.
In the base of sleeves, 3 sets of rotary angle sensors (x-axis, y-axis, z-axis) are assembled and detect even oblique displacement as well.

  • Mechanical construction makes high reliability as measuring tool,
  • Nonlinearity is less than 1% performance makes high accuracy of sensor
  • Backlash “zero” makes high tracking ability,
  • Expansion and contraction structure makes wide ability of usage,
Field of application:
  • WirldSID 50
  • Thor 50
  • Q dummy series
  • RS dummy
  • MATD dummy
International patented products: JAPAN, US, Europe, China, India, Korea, Taiwan

Thor50 dummy with SPIRAL TRACK
  • SPIRAL Track

JASTI has introduced Thor50 in the beginning of 2018.
-JSAE Yokohama in May 2018.
-Testing Expo China.
The proto type has updated with modification items as August and November 2016 by NHTSA.
JASTI starts the proto model evaluation test and certification test.
Thorax test is done with SPIRAL TRACK as soon as SPIRAL TRACK ready for Thor50.
FE model has finished by modeling as NHTSA base. JASTI plans updated with our test results.

WorldSID50 dummy with SPIRAL TRACK
  • SPIRAL Track

JASTI has finished all parts test and certification except Rib as Thorax test and certification. since 2009
WorldSID50 dummy has been suspended the Rib development while JASTI could not purchased IR-TRACC for long time and tried to use Other sensor which was not showing good results for our Thorax test.
Now, JASTI starts Rib development and evaluation test for final certifications using SPIRAL TRACK for Thorax Impact test.

Hybrid III 5M Pedestrian Dummy

The external dimensions are the same size as Hybrid-III 5F Pedestrian dummy. However, the total weight is 60kg. This Pedestrian dummy has developed as old age injury analysis by car accident, earthquake, construction site, as well as use of care center accidents.
The current Hybrid-III50th Pedestrian dummy is 78Kg. This small male dummy is 60Kgs for analysis of Old people injury risk study. The each segment weight are 12% up from 5th Female dummy.
Pe4destrian 5M is added into the Pedestrian dummy group. Our Pedestrian dummies are four models line up. It can be used wider range of Pedestrian accident analysis.

Flexible Lower Leg Impactor

In 1998, EEVC proposed the test procedure to assess the protection vehicle provide a lower extremity of a pedestrian during the collision, since then a rigid-bone type of Legform impactor is used to evaluate the pedestrian protection.

However, due to improve the biofidelity and repeatability of rigid-bone type. JAMA/JARI proposed a flexible type of Legform impactor which is biofidelic flexible design and it has been agreed and adopted as GTR model In 2009.

Since then, JASTI started development of flexible legform impactor in accordance with final GTR specification and design in 2013.

After the several evaluation and outside assessment of proto type JASTI developed. JASTI has completed the proto type stage and Flexible Legform Impactor was released to the market in 2016onward as commercial products of lower leg impactor.

This Flex-PLI has high biofidelity, especially to its center bone part which is molded with glass fiber reinforced plastic with thin wraps, that provides the flexibility and stiffness with high reliability, repeatability and durability. It is equipped four full bridge strain gages in Tibia and three full bridge strain gages in Femure with small power amplifiers on bone core to measure the bending moment in each.

The Knee part are composed of sharply machined aluminum condyles and jointed by steel cables and springs, which replicates the ligament in the real human knee.

  • Flex_PLI-GTR
  • Flex_PLI-GTR

Four sets of string potentiometers are located Inside of Knee condyle to measue LCL, MCL, ACL and PCL keeping the DAS space to be buit-in, whichh was designed to make the teat easier to handle in free flight motion.

Calibration Test:

Static Bent Test

Static Bent test are to apply the center of Tibia Bone, Femur Bon, and Knee block by Autograph.
The load is by the ratio of 400N、10-100mm/min applied onto Bone core which pass the requested corridors as Deflexion and Moment.

The left picture is to apply the load onto Tibia assembly by the Autograph.

Tibia Bone Bent Moment Calibration Test and Jig attachment

Knee Joint Static Calibration Test
The test has been done to eliminate the friction which cause the minor difference with special jigs as shown in left picture.

Neoplan sheet has been adopted as the real impact test. condition.

To measure Ligament (MCL/ACL/PCL/LCL) elongation.

Pendulum Impact Calibration Test

Pendulum Impact Calibration Test
The test has been done by free fall as shown left picture.
Dynamic Pendulum test is to release the Pendulum as free fall to measure inside the Tibia and Femur bones bending moment.
The each bones should meet the requested corridor (Nm). Knee Joint extention should be measured at the same time as Total Pendulum Impact Calibration test.
